Vancouver Designer Satie Shottha donates designer panties to women in need

Vancouver's Kaia Lingerie line reminds us that there is more to underwear than meets the eye

In 2009 Vancouver designer Satie Shottha started designing scarves and leggings and then moved into lingerie, creating what is now the successful Kaia Lingerie line.

Made from eco-friendly fabrics right here in Vancouver, the line of feminine but functional underwear is a fusion of modernity and age old traditions. The panties come in a gorgeous array of vibrant hues from violet and turquoise, to yellow and orange, inspired by chakra colours that are believed to incite positive energy such as strength and courage.

Satie's designs have become popular with Canadian fashionistas and this year Bollywood stars such as Preity Zinta, Kareena Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra will be donning her wares at the 2011 International Indian Film Festival in Toronto. However, it seems that along with a passion for fashion, it's big dreams and a strong sense of social responsibility that drives this talented businesswoman.  read more...http://www.granvilleonline.ca/eds-et-al/kaia-lingerie-panties-purpose

Just because we love fashion and follow runway trends religiously, it doesn’t mean designers’ creations always translate to the real world. Case in point: this season’s innerwear as outerwear trend.

That said, pieces by local designer Satie Shottha for Kaia bridge the gap between catwalk and sidewalk.

Named for the Sanskrit word for “body”, what started as a scarf and legging line now includes lingerie ($26-122) such asnightshirts, chemises, camisoles, shorts, soft bras, thongs, and boy-cut shorts, all made from eco-friendly bamboo, modal, cotton and spandex.

Designers take note: the lace trim on these pieces is just how much underwear we’re comfortable showing off.

Kaia and Me designer Satie Shottha - whose knickers we love - is giving away a pair of panties for every pair purchased online or in store until November 19th. And on November 20th she'll be hand delivering Kaia and Me panties to women on the downtown eastside.

Her motivation? “I always wanted to help the community in some way. Last year I gave away scarves to the Youth shelter but this year I wanted to do it personally and spread awareness as well,” says Satie. “I used to give old clothes but everyone deserves new things.”

So if you need undies here's the perfect chance to get a bit of a glow while stocking up on sweet nothings.

Vancouver: Getting cozy with Kaia and Me lingerie

I don’t have a new-found obsession with all things muff-related, I swear—it just seems serendipitous that the I Love My Muff products I wrote about recently arrived at my office a week before I heard about the launch of a new Vancouver-based line of lingerie.  Satie Shottha ofKaia and Me (kaialingerie.com), a line named for the Sanskrit word for body, started with just scarves and leggings, but’s she’s now expanded her brand to include underwear, chemises, camisoles, shorts, and tunics ($26 to $122), all made from an organic bamboo and cotton blend. I’ve test-driven the boy-shorts, which were soft and comfortable to wear, and featured a super-cute contrasting lace trim.

The signature fabric that gives Kaia and Me's clothing its cashmere-like softness is bamboo, a fibre crop considered by many to be a sustainable material due to its fast-growing nature, with some species of the plant growing up to four feet per day. Bamboo is biodegradable and thrives without fertilizers and chemicals because it contains a substance called bamboo-kun—an antimicrobial, anti-fungal substance that also prevents skin irritations and odour when worn.

Kaia and Me's bamboo is grown in South Korea, processed into yarn in Turkey, knitted in California in a closed-loop process that recycles the majority of toxins before they're flushed into the water system, and garments are produced here in Vancouver.

KAIA AND ME STRAIGHTENS OUT YOUR KNICKERS!

An exaggerated emotion of anger is often followed by the expression of telling someone to calm down by saying, “don’t get your knickers in a knot!” (I’m sure we’ve all heard that one before?)http://themodline.com/main/2010/11/29/kaia-and-me-straightens-out-your-knickers/
